Local Volunteers Act to Clean, Restore, and Renew Billings, Yellowstone County
Bright n' Beautiful, the popular Yellowstone County nonprofit which seeks a clean, green, and more beautiful community, has named Saturday, April 26, “Great American Cleanup Day” in Billings Montana. Volunteers are invited to join in the fun by coming out to tackle a winter’s worth of litter in their neighborhoods and public spaces.
Each year, the Keep America Beautiful network of seven hundred affiliates launches thousands of volunteers to spring clean the nation, one community at a time. Last year, Bright n’ Beautiful, the Yellowstone County affiliate, helped mobilize over 1300 local volunteers and cleared seven tons of litter during Great American Cleanup season. Let's beat that record!
“Great American Cleanup is a beloved annual tradition in Billings,” said Bright n’ Beautiful’s Executive Director, Cindy Peters. “There's something invigorating about hundreds of neighbors getting outside together on the same morning to take care of our community. What a great American way to pitch in, greet spring and honor our Montana home.”
Those interested in joining litter pick-up activities are encouraged to contact Bright n’ Beautiful at brightnbeautifulbillings@gmail.com, or 406-248-6617, to sign-up for a cleanup spot, arrange to borrow safety vests and litter pickers, and receive free supplies. Bright n’ Beautiful is again working with Just Serve (www.justserve.org) to match area volunteers with joint litter-cleanup projects on their Day of Community Service, also on April 26. Elsewhere in the County, the Shepherd Lions Club Roadway Cleanup is also planned for April 26, 8AM – 11AM, check-in at Shepherd Community Center. May 3 the Community Project Connection hosts a Worden cleanup: meet at 9AM at Mara’s Project Dance on Main St. On May 10, join the Build a Better Laurel Community Cleanup: meet at Molly & Friends at 9AM, 317 E. Main St.
Home Base on the big Billings Cleanup Day, April 26, will be the Billings Senior/Community Center, 360 N. 23rd St. Doors open at 8:30 AM for check-in and supplies. Walk-ins welcome while supplies last! Clean up Billings from 9AM to 1PM and return gear by 2PM.
Billings Public Works has generously provided roll-off containers to receive your bagged litter:
Downtown: Parking lot opposite Billings Community Center, 360 N. 23rd St.
Heights: Parking lot of High Sierra Park, west end of Wicks Ln.
West End: Parking lot Poly Vista Park, north end, 38th St W & Collin Dr.
